Cigna Defeats Appeal Over Supplemental Life Insurance Benefits

Cigna Corp. and its subsidiary Life Insurance Co. of North America defeated an appeal by a widow of an Oil Price Information Services LLC employee who sought to recover $100,000 in supplemental life insurance benefits.

Cigna and LINA had no fiduciary duty to solicit and collect additional materials from the widow that would have supported her claim for additional money, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit held May 15.
