Cigna Settles Claims of Inflated Laboratory Services Costs (1)

Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. signed a $300,000 class settlement agreement with a health plan participant who claims the company engages in a fraudulent scheme to overcharge patients for laboratory services from specified providers.

The Feb. 24 deal was announced the same day plaintiff Aubrey Srednicki filed her lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut. Srednicki claims Cigna billed her more than $2,300 for for a blood test from an in-network provider, even though the provider confirmed that it had been paid in full for the test, which cost less than $500.
