Tractor Supply Company, as administrator for its self-funded health plan, is entitled to judgment in an ERISA suit stemming from its denial of coverage for a plan participant’s transportation by air ambulance, a Tennessee federal court held. The company’s determination that the participant’s air transport wasn’t medically necessary is both supported by substantial evidence and rational in light of the plan’s provisions, the court said. AeroCare Medical Transport System, Inc. submitted a claim to processor BlueCross BlueShield, seeking payment in the amount of $140,750.
