A federal district court in Florida granted United Parcel Service Inc. and Securian Life Insurance Company’s motion to dismiss a deceased employee’s beneficiaries’ action for negligence, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty relating to life insurance benefits. The court said that the claims, which could have been brought under ERISA, are preempted by ERISA.
