Case: Health Care & Benefits/Long-Term Disability Benefits (E.D. La.)

July 12, 2022, 1:03 PM UTC

A federal district court in Louisiana entered judgment in favor of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in a Turner Industries Group LLC employee’s ERISA action challenging the denial of long-term benefits. The employee received short-term disability benefits for his shoulder injury and surgery, but his long-term disability benefits were subject to a 12-month lifetime maximum, and he was denied long-term disability benefits for additional physical and mental issues. According to the court, MetLife’s denial of benefits was supported by substantial evidence and thus was not arbitrary and capricious.
