Bipartisan Retirement Bill Sails Through House Committee

GOP gripes about a newspaper pension funding fix didn’t stop House tax writers from approving a retirement tax bundle Senate leaders have been waiting for.

Members of the agenda-setting Ways and Means Committee unanimously voted April 2 to send an updated version of the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act of 2019 (H.R. 1994) through to the full House. Supporters hailed the swift passage as a “tremendous win for the American people.” It also cleared a procedural hurdle that has held up tax writers across the Capitol.
