Biden Seeks to Deliver on Free Community College Promise (1)

President Joe Biden is seeking to make community colleges free for all students, delivering on a campaign promise and reviving an idea originally introduced under the Obama administration.

The proposal, part of the latest White House infrastructure plan, calls for two years of free community college paid for through a federal-state partnership. It would also add $85 billion to the Pell Grant program for low-income students, and boost federal support for Black colleges and other minority-serving institutions.

But it doesn’t go as far as some congressional Democrats’ demands on spending for child care or college affordability.
