Bass Pro Health Plan Smoker Penalty Suit Heads Toward Settlement

Bass Pro Group LLC plans to settle a proposed class action over its practice of charging workers who smoke an extra $2,080 to maintain coverage under the retailer’s health plan.

The parties reached a deal after working with a mediator and plan to file details of the agreement for court approval by Dec. 6, they told Judge M. Douglas Harpool. Their settlement notice, filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Missouri, didn’t include details about the terms of the accord.
