Anthem’s Eating Disorder Coverage Settlement Gets Early Nod

Anthem Blue Cross got early federal court approval for a class action settlement requiring it to reprocess certain claims for coverage of eating disorder treatments or pay up to $5,500 to California patients whose claims were denied.

The settlement, which applies to as many as 2,281 California residents covered by Anthem-administered health plans, allows class members to resubmit their claims for eating disorder treatment so they can be reprocessed under updated and more expansive medical necessity criteria, up to a $400,000 cap for all claims.
