American Dings Bid for BlackRock Documents in 401(k) ESG Lawsuit

American Airlines Inc. pushed back on a pilot’s “absurdly overbroad” request to see documents related to its 401(k) plan’s ties to BlackRock Inc. and investments aimed at environmental, social, and corporate governance strategies.

The airline says it’s already turned over 401(k)-related communications between its benefits committee and BlackRock. Plaintiff Bryan Spence’s request to see all exchanges between every employee of the two companies is both untimely and as “burdensome as it sounds,” given that both employ tens of thousands of workers “with no plausible connection” to the litigation, American said in a Monday court filing.
