American Airlines 401(k) ESG Trial Spurs $4.6 Million Lawyer Fee

The lawyers who were awarded no damages after winning a trial over American Airlines Inc.'s 401(k) plan ties to socially conscious investing are entitled to nearly $4.6 million in attorneys’ fees.

Judge Reed O’Connor ordered the airline to pay about half of the lawyers’ requested fees of nearly $8 million. The plaintiff pilot prevailed on only one of his legal theories and didn’t win damages, O’Connor said, and he isn’t entitled to fees for pressing theories the court rejected.
