Aetna’s $3.4 Million Proton Beam Therapy Settlement Gets OK

Cancer patients suing Aetna Life Insurance Co. over its coverage of proton beam therapy won initial approval for a class settlement requiring the CVS Health Corp. unit to pay up to $3.4 million.

The settlement allows 142 patients who were denied coverage for head, neck, or brain cancer between June 2017 and October 2020 to receive individual cash payments of up to $24,000. Each class member who submits a timely and valid claim form will receive a minimum payment of at least $10,000, according to the settlement motion.
