Aetna Signs Cancer Coverage Pact Worth More Than $3.4 Million

Aetna Life Insurance Co. agreed to pay more than $3.4 million to settle a proposed class action by prostate cancer patients seeking coverage for proton beam radiation therapy.

The deal allows 71 cancer patients whose claims for the treatment were denied between January 2015 and March 2024 to receive reimbursement of at least $12,000 and up to $48,000 each. Patients won’t be required to show that their treatment was medically necessary in order to receive payment, according to a June 6 settlement motion.
