Aetna Life Insurance Co. secured final approval for a class settlement valued at more than $3.4 million, resolving a lawsuit by prostate cancer patients seeking coverage for proton beam radiation therapy.

The agreement allows 71 patients whose claims were denied between January 2015 and March 2024 to receive reimbursement of at least $12,000 and up to $48,000 each. Patients don’t have to show their treatments were medically necessary to receive payment, according to settlement paperwork filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
