United Healthcare Wins Fraud Suit Against Lab That Hid Evidence

United Healthcare Services Inc. won its lawsuit accusing a group of medical testing labs of running a $100 million fraudulent billing scheme, when a federal judge assessed “case-ending sanctions” over the labs’ destruction of evidence.

United identified at least four fraudulent acts committed by defendant Next Health LLC, including filing claims for tests that weren’t performed, falsely representing that United members authorized the insurer to pay the lab directly, and using false billing credentials to circumvent United’s fraud detection process.
