New Jersey law requires that public entities hand over their officials’ private email logs that relate to government work, the state high court ruled Thursday.
Under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act the personal and private emails of public workers are “records” subject to disclosure, Justice Fabiana Pierre-Louis said in her opinion for the unanimous court.
That disclosure potentially included messages sent and received by the Ramapo-Indian Hills Regional High School Board of Education, which was sued after withholding data from board members’ accounts.
