Arent Fox Stakes a Claim on Metaverse Property

Feb. 16, 2022, 4:25 PM

Arent Fox has taken bragging rights as the first big U.S. law firm to enter the metaverse.

The white shoe law and lobbying firm acquired a site this month in the 3D virtual world browser-based platform Decentraland, it said Tuesday. Arent Fox LLP had previously advised PwC LLP when the Big Four consulting and accounting firm, also known as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, bought a site in The Sandbox metaverse.

  • The firm “has a long history of advising companies at the forefront of new technology trends, and leading as an early adopter in those trends,” Chair Anthony V. Lupo said in a statement, adding that Arent Fox was “one of the first major law firms with a website on the internet.”
  • Arent Fox said its Blockchain & Digital Assets group advises clients “in every pillar of the Metaverse technology stack, particularly software and game developers, AR/VR hardware manufacturers, digital asset marketplaces, and brand owners looking to monetize their intellectual property.”
  • Arent Fox is to merge with Schiff Hardin LLP on March 1.
