Legal Tech Company Sues Competitor Over AI-Generated Documents

A company that provides artificial intelligence-powered services for legal professionals is suing a competitor for using similar methods to create AI-generated documents.

Ohio-based www.AI.Law Corp. alleges Butler Labs Inc. infringes its patent-protected methods of having users input “unstructured data” into a large language model to spit out drafts of properly formatted legal documents, a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District for the Northern District of Northern California said.

The competitor, which does business as Eve Legal, made systems to help litigators streamline casework through the use of LLMs such as Claude, Grok and CharGPT, among others, the complaint said. ...
