Google, Oath Beat Arendi Appeal Over Computer-Search Patents

Arendi S.A.R.L. lost its bid to revive infringement claims against Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC and Oath Holdings Inc. after the Federal Circuit found four computer-search patents claimed ineligible abstract ideas.

The patents—which cover identifying information in a document and searching outside sources for related information—claimed abstract information-processing steps “rather than specific improvements in computer functionality,” Judge Richard Linn wrote in a nonprecedential opinion issued Thursday for a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
