Chancery Court to Lawyers: Play Nice

Opposing counsel arguing before Delaware’s elite business court regularly refer to each other as “my friend on the other side.” The Chancery Court apparently wants them to mean it: Guidelines on attorney civility were posted Tuesday, augmenting the decorum already expected under ethics rules.

The court is “known as one of the most collegial places to litigate in the country,” Chancellor Kathaleen St. J. McCormick said in a statement. “The guidelines are simply a reminder of the value the Court places on that civility and our commitment to maintaining that distinction.” ...
