British Telecom Loses Final Patent Claim in Match Data Suit (1)

The lone remaining patent claim asserted by British Telecommunications Plc against IAC/InterActiveCorp and its Match Group subsidiaries was thrown out by a federal judge in Delaware who found its method for updating user profiles too abstract to be patented.

Judge William C. Bryson granted IAC’s request for summary judgment on Claim 10 of US Patent No. 7,243,105, finding it tried to monopolize a common approach to tailoring digital services by tracking and interpreting user activity, according to an opinion unsealed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.
