Congress Splits Without IRS Funding Deals
Lawmakers left Washington last week without a plan for keeping the doors of the IRS—and every other federal agency—open after Sept. 30, and looming expiration of health insurance tax credits also were left unresolved.
Republicans and Democrats pushed competing bills that would have funded the government past the end of the fiscal year, but failed to come to an agreement before leaving town for at least a week. That leaves precious little time to reach a potential resolution before many parts of the government will effectively shut down.
