Federal funding for the IRS remains at a crossroads, even after the government eventually reopens.
The US is all but assured to enter the longest shutdown in its history Tuesday when it surpasses the record set in 2019. The Senate remains deadlocked on whether to advance a clean funding bill approved by the Republican-controlled House, which extended its work stoppage for a sixth straight week in protest of Democrats’ opposition to their bill.
