House, Senate Split on IRS Funding Levels
Congress’ tax to-do list for January looks a lot like the one it had for December.
The House and Senate are returning from the holidays, each with three weeks of work scheduled before funding for the Treasury Department and the IRS expires Jan. 30.
Lawmakers have made little progress on budget talks since the record-setting government shutdown ended in the fall. So the tax collection agency should brace for another funding lapse at worst or another stopgap law that keeps funding flat past January.
