Zillow Home Loans Avoids Kansas Class in Employees’ Wage Suit

Zillow Home Loans LLC convinced a federal court to toss a former loan officer’s proposed class claims under Kansas wage law, but must still contend with a Fair Labor Standards Act collective of nearly 175 employees.

Kansas law precludes state minimum wage and overtime claims against FLSA-covered employers like Zillow, Judge Holly L. Teeter of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas said Tuesday.

The court granted partial summary judgment in Zillow’s favor, dismissed the individual and proposed class claims under the Kansas Wage Payment Act, and denied the pending class certification motion as moot.
