Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio, is shelling out $1 million to settle Justice Department allegations that it engaged in a visa fraud scheme involving H-1B skilled guestworkers.
The fine is the largest visa-fraud sanction imposed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations in Ohio.
Between 2010 and 2013, Wright State entered into contracts with Dayton, Ohio-based Webyoga Inc. for the university to sponsor 24 foreign nationals—selected and approved by Webyoga—on H-1B visas. In doing so, Wright State told the federal government that the workers would be employed by the university and would work on campus, the DOJ said. ...
