Workplace Safety Agency Unveils New Voluntary Compliance Program

The Labor Department launched a new program to help employers comply with workplace safety laws.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the voluntary initiative—dubbed the Safety Champions Program—Monday. It takes employers through three levels of preparing a worker safety and health plan that incorporates OSHA policies around best practices with the assistance of special government employees, people working alongside the agency on workplace safety.

The seven core elements of OSHA’s recommended practices include: setting a clear vision from leadership, prioritizing worker feedback, identifying new hazards as they come up, and providing adequate training.
