Workplace Covid-19 Shot Mandates Limited Under New Alabama Law

Alabama employers face new limits on their ability to fire workers who refuse a mandated Covid-19 vaccine, under legislation Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed Friday as part of a broader Republican pushback against federal workplace vaccine mandates.

The Alabama legislation, SB 9, requires employers that mandate Covid-19 vaccines to give workers the opportunity to request an exemption and bars employers from firing anyone who makes that request. If employers deny an exemption request, employees can appeal the decision.
