Workforce Development Revamp Included in Spending Bill (1)

Lawmakers included language to reauthorize the federal central workforce training system in a stop-gap spending measure to keep the government funded through next year.

The inclusion of funding for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in the continuing resolution unveiled on Dec. 17, marks the first update to the $3 billion program since it first passed in 2014. Congress is expected to pass the bill this week to avoid a government shutdown.
