Workers’ Coronavirus-Related Bias Claims Now Tracked by EEOC

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has begun tracking workplace discrimination charges related to the coronavirus, a spokesman confirmed to Bloomberg Law.

The civil rights agency, tasked with enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws, recently implemented a code in its charge management system that will identify any bias claims filed by workers that are specifically related to Covid-19, said EEOC spokesman Brett Brenner.

This follows a March 26 statement from EEOC Chair Janet Dhillon, who urged employers not to mistreat Asian American workers or those of Asian descent in reaction to the pandemic, which began in Wuhan, China.
