Workers at GM’s Ultium Battery Venture in Tennessee Join UAW (1)

An electric vehicle battery venture between General Motors Co. and LG Energy Solution recognized its Tennessee employees’ election to join the United Auto Workers, the union announced Wednesday.

Ultium Cells LLC agreed to voluntarily recognize the union after a majority of the factory’s 1,000 employees signed cards of support, without opposing the effort or requiring a secret-ballot election, the UAW said.

Ultium didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The company announced in June its first contract ratification with 1,600 hourly employees at its Ohio plant. The Spring Hill, Tenn., location is Ultium’s second US factory, and it shipped ...
