Wichita Steakhouse Settles EEOC Pregnancy Discrimination Lawsuit

A.V.I. Sea Bar & Chophouse has agreed to pay $55,000 to a former employee to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit involving a pregnant worker in Wichita, Kansas, the EEOC said Monday.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged the hostess was provided a stool to alleviate pregnancy-related foot and back pain until managers took it away, demanded she provide a doctor’s note, and then fired her after she provided it.

The three-year consent agreement prohibits future violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and requires the employer to provide copies of the company’s pregnancy discrimination and ...
