Weight Loss Drugs Wegovy, Ozempic Properly Priced, Advocate Says

Expensive drugs that can help with weight loss, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, appear to be correctly priced already to provide economic value under a commonly-used drug cost-effectiveness framework, an obesity treatment advocate said Monday at the Milken Institute Future of Health Summit.

A 2022 report from the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) found that when non-diabetic patients with obesity were treated with semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic, a drug price between $7,500 and $9,800 a year would be cost-effective for treating obesity.
