The average weekly earnings in California’s San Jose metropolitan area, defined by where the establishments are located, fell below Midland, Texas, for the first time on record in July. Compared with a year earlier, average earnings in Midland rose 11.9%, while they fell 1.2% in San Jose, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The two metro areas have the highest earnings in the country, followed by San Francisco, Boston, and Seattle.
