Washington Nurses Union Loses $1.4 Million Wage, Breaks Appeal

A divided Washington Supreme Court overturned a $1.4 million damages award Thursday for a state nurses’ union that sued a hospital on behalf of its members for unpaid wages and missed breaks.

The Washington State Nurses Association lacked associational standing to sue under state law because the damages in the case weren’t certain, easily ascertainable, or within the hospital’s knowledge, the majority ruled in a 5-4 decision.
