Walmart to Pay $60,000 to Settle EEOC Sex Discrimination Lawsuit

Walmart Inc. will pay $60,000 and provide additional relief to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit filed on behalf of a worker in an Ottumwa, Iowa, store, the EEOC announced Thursday.

Walmart allegedly refused to promote a female employee to a department manager position because the company believed she was uninterested in advancing her career because she had young children at home. The store instead allegedly promoted a woman without children.

Such alleged conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said. In addition to monetary relief, Walmart also agreed to conduct training ...
