Walmart Beats EEOC Bid for Disability Accommodations Injunction

Wal-Mart Stores East LP doesn’t require a “far-reaching and burdensome” court order sought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to prevent disability discrimination at the retailer, a federal district judge said.

The “substantial verdict” obtained against Walmart by the EEOC on behalf of Marlo Spaeth, a former worker with Down syndrome, and the publicity it generated, serve as “strong deterrents” against a repeat of the conduct in this case, Judge William C. Griesbach of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin said Feb. 7.
