Voluntary Self-ID for Nonbinary Workers Eyed by Labor Agency

The U.S. Department of Labor is considering options that would allow federal contractor employees to self-identify as nonbinary in what could be a first-of-its-kind move for the agency.

The DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs regulates employers that do business with the federal government and already requires they submit data on the race and sex of job applicants and employees. The agency also requires contractors to provide workers with an opportunity to voluntarily disclose their disability or veteran status.
