Vivint Remains on Hook For $190 Million Award as Appeal Fails

A $190 million verdict for CPI Security Systems Inc. in an unfair competition lawsuit against Vivint Smart Home Inc. was upheld Tuesday by the Fourth Circuit.

The evidence supported the jury’s finding that Vivint salespeople regularly and deliberately lied to CPI’s customers to get them to switch to Vivint, Judge Paul V. Niemeyer said for the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Vivint and CPI compete in the home security market, and CPI presented evidence about the practices of Vivint’s door-to-door salesmen.
