Two Texas oil industry suppliers are expected to start laying off up to 675 workers June 15, the latest example of workforce trimming in a sector adjusting to slumping oil prices and the coronavirus pandemic’s economic fallout.
A Houston manufacturer of drill pipes says that combination could spell layoffs for its entire workforce, according to a WARN Act notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers to give their workers 60 days’ notice before a plant closing or mass layoff, under certain circumstances.
