Virginia Lawmakers Approve Equal Rights Amendment (1)

Virginia has become the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

State lawmakers passed resolutions to adopt the amendment Jan. 15. But whether the amendment has been fully enacted is likely to be determined by the courts.

Dueling lawsuits over the issue are pending in federal court. The U.S. Department of Justice has recently said the process has to be restarted, as a 1979 ratification deadline set by the U.S. Congress has passed.
