Virginia Governor Blocks Workplace Violence Prevention Bill

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed legislation passed by state lawmakers that would have required employers to implement control measures that address workplace violence safety concerns.

The legislation required any company of 100 or more employees to develop, implement, and maintain a workplace violence policy by January 1, 2027. An employer’s policy would’ve needed to include procedures and methods for an employee to report incidents of violence. Companies would’ve also been required to maintain documentation of workplace violence incidents for at least five years.
