Virginia $15 Minimum Wage Bill Teed Up for Governor’s Signature

Virginia is set to raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour in 2028, under legislation that Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) has said she plans to sign.

The measure (SB 1) will increase the statewide wage floor to $13.75 on Jan. 1, 2027, and then $15 a year later. The current minimum is $12.77.

The legislation, which state lawmakers approved Monday along party line votes, is part of a wave of left-leaning workplace policies moving through the statehouse. Those include proposals for paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, and salary transparency.
