The federal government will pay $1.72 million to resolve back pay claims brought by over 1,200 part-time employees at the Veterans Affairs Department who said they were entitled to “premium pay” for working on Sundays.
Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims granted final approval of the settlement Dec. 5 after holding a fairness hearing two days earlier.
Annette Jones brought a class action on behalf of part-time employees at the VA under the Back Pay Act, alleging that they were entitled to “Sunday premium pay” for performing regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on Sunday.
