Venezuelan Immigration Relief Proposal Fails in House

A proposal that would give Venezuelans living in the U.S. temporary deportation protection and work permits failed to pass the House July 23.

The bill (H.R. 549), which was brought under suspension of the rules, didn’t get the two-thirds support needed with a final vote of 268 to 154. The failure comes in the wake of a refusal by the Trump administration to grant temporary protected status to nationals of the country, which is facing a humanitarian crisis resulting from the practices of the Nicolás Maduro regime.
