A wide variety of Department of Defense positions are exempt from the federal hiring freeze put into place by President Donald Trump, a senior DOD official told reporters Feb. 2.
Guidance from the department describes a range of positions that are exempt from the freeze. These include jobs involving troop support, cybersecurity, law enforcement and medicine.
The official wouldn’t estimate how many positions are exempt. The DOD is the largest federal agency, with about 742,000 civilian workers.
