The number of complaints lodged by workers claiming they were discriminated against based on their religious beliefs increased six-fold last year, according to new data from the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The agency—which enforces federal laws that prohibit workplace discrimination—received 13,814 complaints from workers alleging illegal religion-based discrimination in fiscal year 2022, up from just 2,111 the previous year. The increase in those charges was due to a large volume of workers alleging vaccine-related religious discrimination, the EEOC said Monday.
