USCIS Says It Will Recognize Only Two Sexes on Applications (1)

US Citizenship and Immigration Services is updating its policy manual to recognize only two biological sexes, the agency said Wednesday.

That policy change, which is effective immediately, could mean that immigrants applying for benefits like green cards or work permits who don’t enter the sex listed on their birth certificate see delays in adjudication, the agency said.

The update follows a Jan. 20 executive order from President Donald Trump on “gender ideology extremism” that stated US policy only recognizes male and female sexes.
