USCIS Receives 236,000 H-1B Visa Petitions

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services received 236,000 petitions for H-1B highly skilled guestworker visas this year, a slight uptick from last year, the agency announced April 12.

Still, the number of petitions received this year far exceeded the total of 85,000 visas available, prompting the USCIS to conduct a lottery April 9, the agency said. Any petitions not selected in that lottery will be returned to the senders, along with all filing fees.
