A new Trump administration proposal would rescind Biden-era rules that relaxed requirements for immigrants to prove they aren’t likely to depend on government resources in order to be approved for green cards or entry to the US.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services said the “public charge” proposed rule (RIN 1615-AD06), scheduled for publication in the Nov. 19 Federal Register, would “restore broader discretion to evaluate all pertinent facts and align with long-standing policy that aliens in the United States should be self-reliant and government benefits should not incentivize immigration.”
